Game day

A game-day checklist for a smooth stream

Big events put the most pressure on home connections. Ten minutes of preparation saves the second half.

  1. Open the channel early. Check it plays 30 minutes before kickoff, not at kickoff.
  2. Use a cable if you can. Or move the router closer for the evening.
  3. Restart earlier in the day, not right before the game, so everything has settled.
  4. Pause the heavy stuff. Game updates, cloud backups and big downloads can wait.
  5. Check the start time in your time zone, especially for international events.
  6. Keep a backup screen ready. A phone with the player installed covers you if the TV acts up.

Mid-game

If the stream drops during the game

Work through these in order; most streams are back within a minute.

  1. Step 1

    Reopen the channel

Go back to the channel list and select it again.

  2. Step 2

    Try an alternative feed

Big events can appear on more than one channel in the sports category.

  3. Step 3

    Restart the device

If every channel struggles, restart the streaming device, then the router.

  4. Step 4

    Tell us

Message the channel name and the time. It helps us check our side quickly.

Questions about sports channels

It depends on how the rights to that competition are sold where you live. Tell us your team and league and we will give you an honest answer before you order.

Internet streams usually run slightly behind traditional broadcasts, typically by a few seconds. It is normal for any streaming service.

Only where an event is produced and broadcast in 4K, which is still uncommon. Most live sport is in HD or Full HD.

A steady 16 Mbps per Full HD screen is comfortable, measured on the TV. Fast-moving sport shows connection problems first, so a cable helps most.
