Buying advice

Thinking of buying a device for IPTV?

You probably do not need to. But if your TV is older or your current device struggles, these are the things that matter, in order.

  • A wired option

An Ethernet port, or an Ethernet adapter for a stick, matters more than any other spec for smooth live sport.

  • An open app store

Google Play or the ability to install apps gives you the widest choice of player apps.

  • Enough memory

Very cheap boxes with little memory get slow with large channel lists. Mid-range streamers stay responsive.

  • A recent model year

Smart TVs older than five or six years often lose app support. A stick brings them up to date.

Check first

Devices we will be straight with you about

Roku, Vizio SmartCast TVs and games consoles either have no proper IPTV player or only a handful of limited ones. You may get something working, but we would rather tell you now than after you have paid.

The reliable fix is a low-cost streaming stick plugged into the same TV. It usually costs less than a few months of cable and opens up the full choice of player apps.

Device questions

Questions about devices

You can install a player app on several devices. Ask us how many can stream at the same time on your subscription before you set up a second screen, so nothing gets interrupted.

It depends on the device, and app stores change. Tell us what you have and we will recommend a player that works well on it, with the setup steps.

Possibly, but older TVs often have fewer apps and slower processors. Send us the brand and model; if it is not a good fit, a streaming stick is the simple fix.

Boss IPTV does not require a VPN. If you use one for privacy, be aware it can slow streams down, and switch it off first when you are troubleshooting playback.
