Smart TV
IPTV on a smart TV: Samsung, LG, Hisense and more
Most modern smart TVs can run Boss IPTV through a player app, with no extra box. The route depends on your TV's brand and operating system, so start by finding yours.
- Samsung
- Tizen · Samsung app store
- LG
- webOS · LG Content Store
- Hisense
- VIDAA or Google TV
- Sony, TCL, Philips and others
- Often Google TV (model dependent)
- Roku TV, Vizio
- Check with us first
Samsung smart TVs (Tizen)
Step 1
Open Apps
Press Home on the remote and open Apps, Samsung's app store.
Step 2
Install the player we recommend
Available players depend on your TV's model year, so tell us the model first.
Step 3
Note the device ID if shown
Some players show a device ID or MAC address and key on first launch, used to add your playlist on the app's website.
Step 4
Add your details and restart the app
Enter your login or playlist, then close and reopen the player to load channels.
Good to know
Some Samsung player apps charge a one-time activation fee to their developer after a free period. We tell you which ones before you install.
LG smart TVs (webOS)
Step 1
Open the LG Content Store
Press Home and open the store from the launcher bar.
Step 2
Install the recommended player
Search by name; we suggest one known to work on your webOS version.
Step 3
Add your playlist
In the app, or on its website using the device ID it shows.
Step 4
Open a channel
Restart the app if channels do not appear straight away.
Good to know
If your LG TV is several years old and the app is missing from the store, a streaming stick in a spare HDMI port is the reliable fix.
Hisense smart TVs (VIDAA or Google TV)
Step 1
Check which system you have
If you see Google Play and the Google TV home screen, follow the Google TV steps. Otherwise it is VIDAA.
Step 2
Install a player
Google TV models: from Google Play. VIDAA models: from the VIDAA app store, where the choice is smaller.
Step 3
Sign in and watch
Add your login details and open a channel.
Good to know
Google TV models offer the widest choice of players. On VIDAA, tell us the model and we will confirm a working app.
TVs running Google TV or Android TV
Step 1
Open Google Play
Many Sony, TCL, Philips and Hisense models run Google TV or Android TV.
Step 2
Install the recommended player
Search for it by name and install.
Step 3
Sign in and watch
Use your Xtream Codes login or M3U link, then open a channel.
Good to know
These TVs behave like an Android box, so every tip in our Android guide applies.
Roku TVs and Vizio SmartCast
Step 1
Limited apps
These systems have few or no proper IPTV players and do not allow installing other apps.
Step 2
Add a streaming stick
A Fire TV Stick or Google TV streamer in a spare HDMI port gives you the full choice of player apps.
Good to know
We would rather tell you this before you pay than after. Ask us if you are unsure what your TV runs.
Model number
Finding your TV's model number
It decides which apps you can install, so it is the first thing we ask for.
- On screen: open Settings and look for Support, About or Device information. Menu names vary by brand and year.
- On the TV: a sticker on the back panel lists the model number.
- Quickest of all: take a photo of that sticker and send it to us on WhatsApp.
Smart TV or stick?
Built-in TV app or a streaming stick?
Both work. Here is how they compare in practice.
| Smart TV app | Streaming stick | |
|---|---|---|
| Extra hardware | None | One small device |
| Choice of player apps | Limited by the TV's store | Wide, especially on Android-based sticks |
| App fees | Some apps charge a one-time fee | Many good free options |
| Speed of menus | Depends on the TV's age | Usually quicker on older TVs |
| Wired connection | Use the TV's Ethernet port | Optional Ethernet adapter |
Smart TV questions
Questions about smart TVs
Some smart TV players identify your TV by its MAC address or a device key. You then add your playlist on the app developer's website against that ID, and the app loads it.
App availability depends on the model year and region. Send us the model number and we will suggest an alternative, or recommend a streaming stick.
We do not recommend it. TV browsers are slow with live video and do not handle playlists or the TV guide well.
